Yellowstone to Install Cell Phone Service

Editorial: My trip to Yellowstone in June '08 really opened my eyes to the destruction industrial tourism is causing
to our parks and last wild places. Everywhere there was congestion, traffic, pollution, litter, and wildlife gawking in extreme proportions.
The "Villages" spotted throughout the major junctions of park roads are really cities. It reminded me of trying to drive from point A to point B
on a Saturday through busy New Jersey mini-mall/strip store suburbia. There is not a difference. Yellowstone, I felt had been destroyed. The same
is happening in other parks I have visited. What are we trying to accomplish with these parks? Certainly wilderness preservation has taken a
back seat to profit. Creating cell phone towers is just another step down that trail to the suburbanization of our parks. Can we have spaces in our
painfully beautiful west where the comforts of our modern uber-technology crazed society can escape from the monster we have created? To me,
the parks should be safe havens from the buzz of industry and technology. A place where we can escape from ourselves and to ourselves.
